The project Lionserpolder is about doing research after the history of the landscape of a former march plain. Since ages farmers are using the remarkable formed plots for gras production. Nowadays Natuurmonumenten is managing the lower parts of the polder making them suitable for meadow birds like grutto’s. The higher parts are still used by farmers living in the direct neighbourhood.
The goal of the project Lionserpolder is making visible the micro reliëf of the Lionserpolder. This by foto’s, maps and felt. The Lionserpolder is situated in a triangle of the hamlets Lions, Baard and Jorwerd. About 15 kilometers south to Leeuwarden, Friesland, up in the north of the Netherlands. You can visited the polder yourself by walking the Jacobspad. A part of the famous pilgrimage to Santiago the Compostella crosses the polder. Signed by the symbol a shelf of Jacob.
